Added a portfolio of images from the Canadian National Exhibition, which I shot with The Luminous Landscape webmaster and all round Svengali Michael Reichmann for a segment on his upcoming DVD magazine.
Coming shortly: a gallery of 360 degree panoramas and a tutorial in how to create them yourself.

Added a portfolio of images from Ed Mirvish's 87th Birthday Party, a Toronto tradition. This year's bash was truly bizarre. Check out the wildlife here.

Mike Johnstone, former editor of Photo Techniques, has written an essay about authorship in photography, partly based on my Human Traffic series. Check it out on Michael Reichmann's excellent Luminous Landscape site.

Added a section on scanning monochrome images in RGB. Includes test images for comparison, and some surprising results.

Okay, this baby is going live. I finally completed the massive site revamp. Check out the Portfolios, which now include several slices of Canadiana moved over from Zing, plus an entirely new navigation system.
Also massively different is the Human Traffic section, which now features a hard edit of 20 images, extended edit of 50 images as well as the original 300 image portfolio.
I've added a lot of new sections, including information I'm frequently asked about gear and techniques. There's a bio with information about the films I've made and worked on, plus a links section which will take you, among many other things, to the mailing lists I administrate.
There's the obligatory artist's statement, which as you'll see reflects the importance I attach to it, and some information on how you can get images from this site up on your walls. Finally, I have also added a calibration page to help you set up your monitor correctly.
Soon to come will be a guided tour that takes you through the best pictures on the site... effectively my professional portfolio.
Please let me know what you think of the new site, and if you encounter any problems I'll do my best to fix 'em.

Lots of typos corrected (thanks, Henry). Also put up a monitor calibration page to try to get round the problem of some images displaying too dark, a problem I haven't been able to reproduce on my Mac, with or without Colorsync.

Ported over the Canadiana from the Zing site and edited it down to 20 images. View it here.
Archived the old site, and deleted the live files. Shed a nostalgic tear. Uploaded new site and started beta testing.
Watched the Leafs lose a crucial playoff game to the Devils. Idiots! If only I'd been playing!

Finally finished the edits of Human Traffic, and replaced jpegs where I could with final versions from the print portfolio.

Well, I guess I'm about halfway through this site update and it's turning into more of a headache than I'd anticipated. I hope it's going to be worth it.Going through all the portfolios and converting the new format gave me the idea to have a kind of 'grand tour' option for the site... a sort of virtual extended portfolio that takes you through the best pictures I have. Hmmm... sounds like more work....

Toronto's month-long Contact photo festival kicks off this week. Check out the excellent website for details of the 70+ exhibitions. I'll be attending the launch and the May 18 Portfolio Review session, as well as several other events, so if you'd like to meet up, drop me a line.
